More about the role

We are looking for embedded software intern in Eindhoven, as an intern you will contribute to innovative projects focused on improving the performance, scalability, and efficiency of IoT wireless gateway systems. These gateways play a critical role in connecting edge devices, managing network traffic, and ensuring reliable communication within IoT ecosystems.

Topic Description

Performance Optimization and Benchmarking of an IoT Wireless Gateway

This internship focuses on developing algorithimic techniques to optimize and benchmark the wireless network performance of an IoT wireless gateway that bridges multiple wireless protocols (e.g., Zigbee, BLE, Thread) to cloud or edge platforms.

The goal is to analyze system performance bottlenecks, optimize software and communication stacks, and benchmark key metrics such as throughput, latency and reliability under realistic IoT workloads.

During this internship, you will work with embedded platforms and networking stacks, leveraging tools and profiling techniques to assess system efficiency. You will gain hands-on experience with real-world IoT gateway architectures and contribute to improving reliability and scalability in connected lighting systems.

Your qualifications

  • Enrolled in an engineering degree in Embedded Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong interest in embedded systems, networking, and performance optimization

  • Experience with programming in C/C++ and at least one scripting language (e.g., Python)

  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems and embedded development environments

  • Basic understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, MQTT, BLE, Zigbee, or similar)

  • Experience with performance profiling or benchmarking tools is a plus

  • Experience with Git for version control

  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills

  • Available for 6–12 months, 32–40 hours per week, preferred start date: October 1st

What you’ll get in return

  • Opportunity to work in an embedded software Scrum team developing smart wireless IoT systems

  • Hands-on experience with IoT gateways, wireless protocols, and system performance engineering

  • Mentorship from experienced engineers in embedded systems and networking

  • Exposure to real-world large-scale IoT deployments

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment

  • Internship allowance; the exact amount depends on your situation (also towards rented accommodation or public transportation).

  • Paid leave on the basis of 1 day per month.

  • Extensive set of tools to drive your career, such as a personalized learning platform.

We offer strong opportunities for career development through mentoring, coaching, and international exposure. Continuous learning is at the heart of our culture, enabling you to expand your knowledge and skills every day.
