Description
The Tulsa Higher Education Consortium (THE Consortium) is seeking motivated, community-minded interns who are passionate about helping students and families access higher education opportunities.
This internship is ideal for students interested in education, counseling, social work, public service, nonprofit leadership, communications, or community engagement. Interns will gain hands-on experience supporting Tulsa-area students and families as they navigate the FAFSA and Oklahoma’s Promise processes.
About THE Consortium
THE Consortium is Oklahoma’s only higher education consortium, bringing together colleges, universities, community organizations, and workforce partners to improve student success and economic mobility across the Tulsa region.
Internship Overview
Family College Access Navigator Interns will work directly with students, parents, caregivers, schools, and community organizations to increase awareness of financial aid opportunities and support successful completion of FAFSA and Oklahoma’s Promise applications.
Interns will receive training, mentorship, and professional development while building valuable experience in outreach, communication, event facilitation, and student support.
Responsibilities
Family & Student Support
- Assist families with FAFSA and Oklahoma’s Promise applications
- Help explain financial aid processes in an approachable and supportive way
- Answer questions and connect families with additional resources
Outreach & Engagement
- Support college access events at schools and community locations
- Assist with evening or weekend family workshops and information sessions
- Help distribute educational materials and follow-up communications
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Work alongside THE Consortium staff and community partners
- Participate in team meetings and trainings
- Gain exposure to regional higher education and workforce initiatives
Ideal Candidates
We are looking for interns who are:
- Passionate about education and helping others
- Strong communicators who enjoy working with people
- Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable speaking with families and community members
- Interested in college access, education, nonprofit work, or public service
Preferred Qualifications
- Current college student or recent graduate
- Experience working with youth, families, or community organizations preferred
- Knowledge of FAFSA or Oklahoma’s Promise is helpful, but training will be provided
- Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
Schedule
- Approximately 20 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling based on school and event needs
- Some evening and weekend availability required
- Grant-funded internship position
Location
Tulsa-area schools and community sites. Reliable transportation is required.
