Civil Engineering Intern (Utilities / Wet Utilities / Drainage)

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Civil Engineering Intern (Utilities / Wet Utilities / Drainage) to join our team in Doha, Qatar! In this role, you will support the design and coordination of utilities corridors, potable water networks, foul sewer systems, and stormwater drainage on major infrastructure and urban development projects. You will gain hands-on, real-world design experience while working closely with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams in a professional consulting environment. Interns are encouraged not only to learn, but also to contribute to project outputs, collaborate with engineering teams, and develop their professional capabilities through mentorship, technical sessions, and networking opportunities.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Design & Technical Support:
- Assisting in the preparation and updating of utilities corridor layouts, integrating multiple services (water, sewer, drainage, power, telecom).
- Supporting development of potable water network designs, including layouts and basic design inputs under supervision.
- Assisting in preparing foul sewer and stormwater drainage designs, including plans, profiles, and layout drawings.
- Supporting development of plans, long sections, and cross-sections using CAD tools.
- Assisting with basic engineering calculations and data inputs (under supervision), including flow inputs and design assumptions.
- Supporting preparation of engineering deliverables, including drawings, reports, and design documentation.
Multidisciplinary Coordination:
- Assisting in coordinating designs across:
- Wet utilities (water, sewer, drainage)
- Dry utilities (electrical, telecom)
- MEP/building interfaces
- Supporting identification of clashes, routing conflicts, and corridor constraints.
- Participating in design coordination activities and tracking comments and required updates.
- Assisting in updating coordination drawings based on team inputs and redlines.
Design Review & Documentation:
- Assisting in reviewing design submissions, including internal drawings and coordination outputs.
- Supporting updating of documents based on engineering comments and design revisions.
- Assisting in maintaining design registers, comment logs, and submission tracking records.
Data Management & Reporting:
- Collecting and organizing design data, including survey inputs, utility requirements, and technical documentation.
- Assisting in preparing presentations, reports, and design summaries.
- Supporting tracking of design changes and coordination updates across disciplines.
Learning & Development Opportunities:
- Gaining direct exposure to utilities design for major infrastructure projects.
- Learning how utilities corridors are planned and coordinated in complex urban environments.
- Participating in mentorship programs, technical sessions, and knowledge-sharing events.
- Developing understanding of design workflows, submission processes, and coordination practices.
- Building a professional network across engineering disciplines and project teams.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering at an accredited university in Qatar.
- Strong academic record with coursework relevant to:
- Hydraulics / fluid mechanics
- Infrastructure or utilities engineering
- Basic drainage / sewer concepts
- Basic proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (plans, profiles, and sections).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow engineering standards and procedures.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary design environment.
- Eagerness to learn and contribute to engineering design activities.
