About The Company
Trico Centre for Family Wellness is a community-owned, not-for-profit facility that works in partnership with over 30 south Calgary communities. Our multi-sport facility includes a fitness centre, two NHL-sized rinks, an aquatics centre, a gymnasium, on-site child care, and ten multi-purpose rooms. Our facility is also the home of several health and wellness-related businesses. About the Role
 


SPECIAL EVENTS SUMMER STUDENT


Trico Centre is seeking a Special Events Summer Student who will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of the 2026 Trico Centre Charity Golf Classic, and other tasks as assigned by the Business and Fund Development Director. This is a summer student position that begins on June 1, 2026 and will end on, or about, July 24, 2026.


Qualifications: 


  • Trico Centre will initiate a comprehensive criminal background check for all new hires. A previous check will be accepted provided it is dated within the past 6 months.
  • Previous event planning experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in recreational / leisure environment is an asset.
  • Must own or have access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work weekends, if required. 
  • Per grant approval requirements, candidates must be 30 years of age or younger at the time of grant placement.


Required Skills / Experience: 


Organization: Ability to multitask and manage various aspects of event planning simultaneously.

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, vendors, and prospects.

Detail-Oriented: The ability to pay close attention to small details is crucial to ensure the success of events.

Problem Solving: Quick thinking and the ability to solve problems on the spot are valuable skills in the fast-paced environment of events.

Teamwork: The ability to collaborate effectively with other team members, including event planners, vendors, and support staff.

Flexibility: The events industry can be unpredictable, so being adaptable to changing circumstances is important.

Customer Service: Responsible for providing excellent customer service to clients and attendees, including Trico Centre members and visitors. Sales experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in using Microsoft Office.

 

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: 


  • May be required to sit at a desk for lengthy periods of time and/or go off site for special events
  • Work hours may vary within a seven day a week operation based on facility needs and/or scheduled meetings and special events
  • Works in an open office space where noise may be a factor
  • May be required to lift and move items weighing 30 lbs. or greater


 Performance Responsibilities:

 

Planning and Coordination:

 

  • Collaborate with team members in the planning, coordination, and execution of various activities and events (primarily the Trico Centre Charity Golf Classic) including but not limited to:
    • Sponsor, golfer, and donor communication and coordination
    • Event logistics, including setup/tear-down
    • Ensure that all necessary equipment and materials are available and functioning properly
    • On-site event support and attendee engagement
    • Ensure delivery of all sponsorship items (logos, social media, etc.)
    • Post-event follow-up and evaluation


Communication: 

 

  • Communication with vendors, clients, participants, and Trico Centre members and visitors to ensure all information is clear and expectations are met.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide information to all relevant parties before and during events.
  • Assist in the direction of email marketing campaigns, newsletter content, business and fund development collateral, and other communications.

 

On Site Support:

 

  • Provide on-site support during events, managing registration, directing participants, and addressing issues as they arise.
  • Work with security and emergency personnel to ensure the safety of event attendees, and Trico Centre members and visitors, as required.


 Documentation:

 

  • Assist in creating post-event reports and evaluations.
  • Assist in creating and distributing thank you letters and receipts to donors, sponsors, and business partners.
  • Maintain records of expenses, receipts, and other event-related documents.
  • Assist with data entry tasks, including, but not limited to:
    • Input attendee information into databases.
    • Compile and organize survey responses and feedback data.
    • Maintain accurate records of event expenses and budget allocations.
    • Research, prospecting, and recording potential donors, sponsors, and grant opportunities.


Sales, Donations and Sponsorship:


  • Help sell available/remaining sponsorships to local partners for the Trico Centre Charity Golf Classic
    • Obtain signed agreement(s) from partner
    • Ensure delivery of all sponsorship items (logos, social media, etc.)
  • Prospect for silent auction and raffle items as needed for golf tournament


 Work Schedule:

 

Full-time flexible hours per week. Employees will be scheduled for forty hours per week, 8 consecutive hours per day of which 7.5 hours are considered work time and .5 hours (30 minutes) is a paid rest break (7 days per week, 16 hours per day) in keeping with the needs of department and Trico Centre. Must be available for the full-term June 1 – July 24, 2026. Must be available for the following dates:

 

  • Wednesday, June 24th: 4pm – 7pm
  • Thursday, June 25th: All Day

 

 

Wage: $22.00 per hour (Seasonal Summer Position)
