About the Role

Industrial Design Intern – Shape the Future of Field Technology

Join our Field Systems team and support the product design cycle from initial concept to working prototype. As an Industrial Design Intern at Trimble, you will contribute to the mechanical and aesthetic aspects of world-class surveying and mapping tools, helping to bridge the gap between digital models and physical hardware in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

What Makes This Role Great: 

You will have the unique opportunity to work across the entire product lifecycle, moving from conceptual sketches and 3D modeling to organizing prototype builds. This role allows you to influence the design of rugged electronic enclosures and user interface elements that are used by professionals globally in civil engineering and natural resources.

Key Exciting Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of sketches, renderings, and 3D models to communicate innovative design concepts.

  • Support the product design of electronic enclosures and accessories specifically built for rugged, real-world environments.

  • Coordinate with manufacturing teams and manage vendors for engineering and prototype builds.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional experts to align industrial design with technical requirements, manufacturing constraints, and marketing requirements.

  • Participate in design reviews and help integrate industrial design strategies across various sectors.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in CAD software, specifically Creo, for 3D solid modeling and surfacing.

  • Strong commitment to quality with a high attention to detail and a persistent, inquisitive mindset.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively share design ideas.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.

Bonus Points For

  • Familiarity with New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.

  • Experience in creating assembly and test procedures for product sub-assemblies.

  • Knowledge of current industry trends in ruggedized product design.
