About The Company
The Kelly Strayhorn Theater is a unique and vibrant community performance arts center located in the heart of East Liberty, one of Pittsburgh’s most historic neighborhoods. We encourage diverse, inclusive and high quality, artistic, cultural and educational activities. The Kelly Strayhorn contributes to cultural understanding, quality of life, as well as economic development in community, county, city and region. The theater offers original and eclectic programming year-round.   The Kelly Strayhorn Theater is more than bricks and mortar; it is a living testament to the drive and creativity of true American originals. To enter the theater is to be in the presence of two creative and passionate spirits, who with their talent, tenacity, and love of their craft provide inspiration for us today: famed dancer and Hollywood movie legend Gene Kelly, born and raised in East Liberty and Homewood-bred jazz composer Billy Strayhorn. Their spirits abound in the young East End artists of today. The Kelly Strayhorn Theater is an intimate, professionally-equipped, 350-seat multiple-use performance venue. With a commitment to support the burgeoning arts community in the city of Pittsburgh, the theater serves as an ideal place for emerging local artists, regional artists and arts organizations to take risks and present new work.

At Kelly Strayhorn Theater (KST), we are committed to creative experimentation, community dialogue, and collective action rooted in the liberation of Black and queer people. We achieve this through quality programming that centers artists and community.
