Job Purpose
The Lands and Resources Department works to protect CLFN’s Denesułine, Indigenous, and Treaty Rights through assessing and addressing impacts to those rights, enhancing CLFN Stewardship over Denne Ni Nenne, increasing CLFN participation in, and oversight of, development activities in Denne Ni Nenne, supporting strong relationships with Industry, Government and other neighbors, and upholding the Livelihood for a Livelihood principle.
This position is responsible for supporting LRD field operations during the summer. Students support a range of activities including site maintenance, facilities maintenance, and environmental field work. This involves spending a lot of time on the land using trucks, ATVs, boats, and hand tools to get things done in the bush. This is a fun summer job, but you will work hard as a member of a high-performing team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and take direction from leads in operational areas such as front country maintenance, automotive repair, and environmental monitoring.
- Demonstrate strong listening skills, acquire new technical tasks efficiently, and contribute positively to the team.
- Arrive daily fully prepared for field duties with all necessary gear, including appropriate clothing, sustenance, and water.
- Safely and effectively operate specialized equipment, including pumps, pressure washers, tractors, mowers, weed eaters, ATVs, marine vessels, and various hand tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Enrollment Status: Currently enrolled in an academic program with intent to return in Fall 2026. Priority consideration will be given to students enrolled in High-school (eligible for work experience credits) or post-secondary institutions.
- Transportation: Must maintain reliable means of transportation to ensure punctual, daily reporting to the LRD shop located at English Bay.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Position requires the physical stamina to walk long distances through forested areas over rough and uneven terrain.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements
- Position-Specific Hours: Standard daily shifts for this role are typically 9:00am – 5:00pm, though extended hours may be required.
- Operational Environment: Duties are performed primarily in outdoor field environments and within the maintenance shop.
- Schedule Flexibility: Shift schedules will vary based on current work plan assignments and task requirements.
- Schedule requirements may include mandatory weekend, holiday, and overtime hours.
Contract Terms: This is a seasonal, fixed-term contract expiring September 15th. Opportunities may exist to continue weekend shifts around the academic schedule. Off-campus students may benefit from flexible scheduling to facilitate early work placement commencements.
