Students Marketing & Communications team supports the organization’s Board of Directors and 13

Programs, which are made up of elected & otherwise appointed student & full-time staff, in their efforts to

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Assistant Executive Director of Marketing & Communications, the

Backend Web Developer at Associated Students of SFSU is a student position focused on the technical

implementation and functionality of the AS website, ensuring a seamless user experience through

efficient coding and back-end development. This role involves building, maintaining, and optimizing the

website's interactive features and overall performance. The Backend Web Developer collaborates closely

with the Frontend Web Designer, bringing visual designs to life and ensuring they work flawlessly on

various devices and browsers. Additionally, this role works with the Marketing & Communications team,

particularly with the Graphic Designers and the Design Coordinator, to ensure the website aligns with

the organization's strategic goals.


Essential Job Functions:

● Collaborates with the Frontend Web Designer to implement user-centric design changes and

enhancements to the AS website

● Codes and develops custom features, pages, and functionalities to improve website usability

and performance

● Ensures that the website is responsive, accessible, and optimized for SEO

● Regularly communicates with the Design Coordinator to provide updates on project

progress and participate in strategic planning for website improvements

● Troubleshoots and debugs issues related to front-end development and user interface

interactions

● Conducts research and stay informed about emerging web development trends, tools, and

technologies

● Integrates front-end components with backend services and databases to update & maintain

the AS website

● Organizes & builds pages for the website to display all AS Programs, Board of Directors

resources, services, departments, and information in a functional, user-friendly way

● Collaborates with Frontend Web Designer to process Web Requests in an accurate and

timely manner

● Collaborates with Frontend Web Designer to meet with, coordinate, strategize & present

larger-scale website updates to AS staff & admin, in collaboration with team & supervisor


Qualifications :

● Must be a currently enrolled SFSU student with a minimum of 6 units for undergraduates or

4 units for graduates

● Demonstrated experience in front-end web development with proficiency in HTML, CSS,

and relevant frameworks

● Familiarity with web accessibility standards and best practices

● Experience with creating custom pages & posts in WordPress or another web building

platform (Elementor for Wordpress knowledge is a plus)

● Knowledge of prototyping tools such as Adobe XD & Figma

● Knowledge of Google API implementation

● Some knowledge of Google Analytics & SEO

● Strong working knowledge of HTML & CSS

● Self-motivated, takes initiative, able to maintain strong working relationships

● Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

● Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and independently when

necessary

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
