About the Role

Qualifications

Position Summary:


Under moderate supervision, creates part and assembly drawings in 3D CAD software. Makes updates to existing drawings. Creates and modifies item records, bills of materials, routes, and other settings in MRP system. Designs new product variants which are moderately different from existing products, progressing to more varied and complex. Designs and implements product improvements of moderate complexity to existing products, progressing to more varied and complex. Assists production floor in solving problems. Assists technical writer in creating product and process documentation. Designs welding and fabrication fixtures of moderate complexity.


Essential Functions of the Job:
1. Creates accurate and consistent part and assembly drawings in 3D CAD system.
2. Creates or modifies item records, bill of materials, routes, and other settings in MRP system, as necessary to ensure proper and accurate manufacturing resource planning, production control, and inventory control.
3. Assists production floor in solving problems, especially drawing or CAD model related problems.
4. Assists technical writer in creating product and process documentation, especially by providing CAD models and/or drawings for use in technical literature.
5. Creates Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) as necessary and accurately communicates required change actions to other co-workers and departments.
6. May be assigned additional responsibilities as necessary to support the engineering department.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):
Knowledge of part drawings, assembly drawings, and design layouts.
Knowledge in a steel manufacturing (fabrication and welding) equipment and processes preferred.
Skill for computer programs including Solid Works, Excel and Word.
Able to design parts and weldments in 3D CAD software.
Able to develop proficiency with JDE MRP system.
Able to think critically and identify solutions to problems.
Able to understand and operate engineering and production control modules of JDE system.
Able to plan, prioritize and organize.
Able to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
Able to write and speak technical instructions.
Able to wear personal protective equipment.
Able to work overtime and/or including weekends as workload dictates.


Education and Experience:
Minimum of two semesters of training in drafting or CAD drafting required. Minimum of one semester of training in Solid Works CAD software or SolidWorks CSWA Certification required. Successful completion of algebra and geometry coursework required. Current or prior placement in high school advanced math coursework preferred.

 

Working Conditions:
Work performed in a climate controlled metal manufacturing production office environment, with continuous sitting, reading, and typing. Requires some work in a non-climate controlled metal manufacturing production environment.
