Position Overview

We are seeking to hire a student worker for the Office of Communications.  Duties include assisting staff in creating press releases, social media posts, taking photos and producing videos for the Illinois State Fair. 

 

This is a perfect opportunity for a student looking to gain experience in the field of communications, to be involved with one of the most popular events in Illinois.  The intership provides a one of a kind experience seeing how an event of this magnitutude is covered by the media and how to handle the public relations demands that come with hosting the Illinois State Fair.  This internship will take place from August 10th, 2026 - August 23rd, 2026.  

 

Our ideal candidate is a communications major who wants to enter the public or media relations field upon completing school.  We encourage all qualified applicants to apply and experience a summer of fun at the fair.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports professional staff in generating social media posts for the Illinois State Fair
  • Assists in gathering content by taking photos and videos during the fair
  • Contributes suggestions for timely and engaging posts utilizing knowledge of social media trends
  • Assists with general office work including answering the phone, performing data entry, and answering basic questions from the public
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Requires active enrollment at a college.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Prefers experience working in a business or public organization creating social media posts.
  • Prefers experience maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to successfully pass a background check and self disclosure of criminal history.
