JOB SUMMARY: The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Intern plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, client-centered care within a fast-paced Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) behavioral health clinic. Under the supervision of a Nevada Board-approved LCSW supervisor, the intern provides therapeutic support to individuals experiencing mental health, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, facilitating individual and group therapy sessions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated care.


This position is part of an NBESW-approved internship program under NAC 641B.150. The intern will be supervised by a Nevada Board-approved LCSW with a minimum of three years of post-licensure clinical experience and current practice in psychotherapeutic methods. Weekly individual supervision (at least one hour) is required, with documentation of all supervision and accrued hours. The intern must display their Nevada LCSW Intern Certificate at their primary practice location, as required by NAC 641B. All clients served are considered clients of the agency, and clinical records are agency-owned. Services must be provided exclusively within approved agency settings in Nevada. Independent or out-of-state practice is not permitted under this internship.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform biopsychosocial evaluations to identify client needs, strengths, diagnoses, and treatment goals.
  • Deliver psychotherapeutic interventions using evidence-based modalities tailored to culturally diverse populations.
  • Respond to urgent mental health situations with de-escalation, safety planning, and referral strategies.
  • Support clients in developing coping mechanisms, emotional regulation, and problem-solving strategies.
  • Deliver psychoeducation on mental health topics, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, case managers, and external agencies to ensure integrated care and continuity of services.
  • Develop and revise individualized care plans in partnership with clients, focusing on measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with collateral contacts as needed to support client progress and provide resources.


Administrative Duties 

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries 
  • Assist with appointment scheduling, reminder calls, and follow-up coordination to support client engagement.
  • Participate in tracking service outcomes, client satisfaction, and program metrics for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and supervision sessions to contribute to clinical discussions and receive guidance.
  • Complete mandatory trainings, maintain HIPAA compliance, and follow all internal and external regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • The LCSW Intern ensures compliance with all 19 Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Health Center Program Requirements.
  • The LCSW Intern is also expected to actively participate in and support quality improvement activities and the clinical practice team efforts emphasizing the importance of the individual patient and putting the patient’s needs first.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Eligible to register with the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers as a Clinical Social Worker Intern (CSW-Intern)
  • Commitment to completing 3,000 post-graduate supervised clinical hours (including 2,000 in psychotherapy/diagnosis/treatment) within 2–3 years
  • Strong desire to work in a community-based, integrated primary care and behavioral health environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and provide culturally competent care
  • Willingness to complete the ASWB Clinical Exam and fingerprint/background check as required for full licensure
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical documentation systems
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) or multilingual preferred


Education:

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. Frequent sitting. Manual dexterity. Good reading eyesight and vision for close work. Ability to communicate by speaking and hearing in person or on the phone. Ability to travel to various locations.
