About the Role

Description

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Pay-rate: $17/hour
Work schedule:  Monday-Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 35 hours per week

Location: Onsite, Dallas

Scope of Internship

The Dallas Museum of Arts (DMA) seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Arts Technology Intern to support digital content, Collections systems, and Technology initiatives across exhibitions and public-facing platforms. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of museum collections, digital media, and emerging technologies.

The intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Collections, Experience, Education, and Exhibitions to enhance data quality, improve content delivery, and contribute to innovative visitor engagement initiatives.


Responsibilities

Collections & Systems Support

  • Support data cleanup and standardization efforts to ensure consistency across collections records
  • Review and reconcile records between TMS, Piction, and web platforms to ensure alignment and accuracy
  • Research content publishing workflows across systems such as TMS, Piction, and Bloomberg Connects


Digital Content & Experience

  • Support development and maintenance of digital content for exhibitions and permanent installations
  • Contribute to the research, development, implementation, and evaluation of digital interpretation initiatives for Museum visitors onsite and online.
  • Coordinate and support the linking of digital assets (images, audio, video) to corresponding TMS records
  • Assist with app-based content creation and updates, including Bloomberg Connects
  • Assist in preparing collections data for API integrations or digital publishing initiatives
  • Ensure proper file naming conventions, rights information, and metadata are consistently applied
  • Identify new resources and tools for staff to create, edit, and deliver audio and video content


Reporting & Quality Assurance

  • Generate and review basic reports from TMS to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or outdated records
  • Participate in ongoing data quality audits and improvement initiatives
  • Document workflows and identify how new initiatives can align with existing procedures.


Collaboration & Communication

  • Utilize platforms such as Microsoft Teams for project coordination and communication
  • Work collaboratively across departments to meet deadlines and project goals
  • Document processes and contribute to workflow improvements where applicable


Learning Outcomes

By the end of this internship, participants will:

  • Gain practical experience with museum collections systems and digital asset management
  • Develop skills in digital content creation and publishing within a cultural institution
  • Participate in innovative digital engagement and exhibition technologies
  • Build professional experience collaborating across museum departments

Requirements

Current college student (junior/senior preferred) or recent graduate in fields such as: 

  • Digital Media / Interactive Design
  • Information Science or related discipline
  • Data Science / Data Analytics
  • Digital Media / Digital Arts
  • Interactive Media / Interactive Design
  • Familiarity or exposure to: 
    • Microsoft Teams
    • The Museum System (TMS)
    • Piction
    • Bloomberg Connects
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage data accurately
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written communication and editing abilities


Preferred

  • Experience with digital media tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, audio/video editing software)
  • Basic understanding of metadata standards and collections management practices
  • Exposure to interactive technologies, AR/VR platforms, or digital exhibition design
  • Interest in art, museums, and visitor experience innovation
