JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Dr. Bryan’s Research Laboratory in the Department of Animal Science at Penn State is seeking motivated undergraduate students for a part-time research internship position (up to 20 hours per week) between June and mid-August 2026.

This internship provides students with hands-on experience in applied poultry research, including poultry nutrition, management, behavior, and welfare. Students will work directly with ongoing research projects and gain practical exposure to research methods used in modern animal agriculture systems.

Position Details

  • Hours: Up to 20 hours per week

Responsibilities

Intern responsibilities may include:

  • Broiler chick and layer poult weighing and placement
  • Feed mixing and feed management
  • Litter management and facility maintenance
  • Sample collection and laboratory sample analysis
  • Data entry and research record management
  • Assisting with day-to-day research activities in poultry production systems

Qualifications

  • Interest in poultry science, animal science, agriculture, biology, or related fields
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team
  • Previous research or poultry experience is helpful but not required
