About the Role

Join Livingston Regional Hospital, a 114-bed, community hospital certified for sepsis care by the Joint Commission and accredited for chest pain by the American College of Cardiology. Job Summary

The Accountant Intern supports the accounting and finance team by assisting with routine accounting functions, financial reporting activities, account reconciliations, and administrative support tasks. This role provides practical experience in healthcare accounting operations while developing foundational knowledge of financial systems, accounting principles, and organizational processes under the guidance of experienced accounting professionals.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assists with preparation and entry of routine accounting transactions and journal entries.
  • Supports account reconciliation processes and review of financial data for accuracy.
  • Assists with organizing and maintaining accounting records, reports, and documentation.
  • Utilizes spreadsheet and financial software tools to compile and organize data.
  • Assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, or general ledger support activities as assigned.
  • Helps prepare reports, schedules, and supporting documentation for month-end processes and audits.
  • Responds to routine inquiries and requests for information from department staff.
  • Maintains confidentiality of financial and organizational information.
  • Learns and adheres to accounting policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, projects, and training opportunities.
  • Performs additional duties contributing to efficient operations and quality patient care.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role
  • Current Enrollment in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

 

Licenses/Certifications

  • Candidates should be in good academic standing and interested in pursuing a career in accounting, finance, or healthcare administration.

 

Experience

  • Prior Experience internship, clerical, customer service, or office experience (Preferred)
