About the Role


Acme Manufacturing, the global leading machine tool builder for the Medical, Aerospace, Firearms industries and many others, seeks a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern. 

What You’ll Be Able to Do

The Mechanical Engineering Summer Intern will support the engineering team by digitizing legacy documentation and gaining hands-on exposure to mechanical engineering processes. This role will work closely with the documentation and mechanical engineering teams to understand current workflows, improve documentation systems, and identify opportunities to leverage AI for increased efficiency.

This position offers the opportunity to learn core engineering tools and methodologies while contributing to process improvement initiatives.

 Core Responsibilities Include

  • Digitize and organize existing mechanical engineering documentation, including drawings, manuals, and technical procedures
  • Shadow the documentation engineering process to understand workflows and identify inefficiencies
  • Assist in developing structured, standardized, and searchable digital documentation systems
  • Support initiatives to evaluate and implement AI tools for documentation automation and process improvement
  • Collaborate with engineers to capture and formalize undocumented knowledge into standardized formats
  • Assist with CAD modeling and drawing updates under guidance
  • Learn and apply fundamentals of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) in engineering documentation
  • Support basic FEA (Finite Element Analysis) activities and simulation preparation
  • Document processes, findings, and recommendations for continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist documentation of Acme 3D printing, milling, and cNc equipment.

Experience / Qualifications

To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited four-year college or university

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Interest in engineering documentation, process improvement, and digital transformation
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is preferred
  • Exposure to GD&T and/or FEA concepts is a plus but not required
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn in a hands-on engineering environment
