About the Role

Alkeus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage biotech company focused on the development of innovative therapies to treat serious diseases of the eye with high unmet need. Based in Cambridge, Mass., Alkeus was founded in 2010, and since that time has been developing its lead compound, gildeuretinol acetate (ALK-001). Designated as a breakthrough therapy and granted orphan drug status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, gildeuretinol is being evaluated in multiple clinical trials for the treatment of Stargardt disease and geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of blindness in the U.S.

Position Summary

The Medical Affairs Intern will support the team in its mission to develop strategies in support of key medical affairs activities. The deliverables of this internship will provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various medical and cross-functional initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support Patient Advocacy activities including, but not limited to, strategic patient engagement, patient-focused drug development, patient community strengthening, partner engagement/support, and others.
  • Support the build-out of Medical Affairs Operations including, but not limited to, grants/sponsorship processing, budget tracking, conference/congress planning, Patient Advocacy group events, and others as appropriate.
  • Support the Medical Affairs team by setting up and expanding Field Medical, Medical Information, Scientific Communications and other areas as assigned.
  • Provide summaries of findings that support the Medical Affairs initiatives through conducting research, reviewing literature and critically evaluating published and unpublished clinical data in the related fields.
  • Under close supervision, develop and present at least one structured presentation on the internship assignments, learnings and take aways.
  • Deliver on other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • Enrolled in a degreed-program with a focus in life sciences

Work Experience:

  • Experience conducting research on medical and scientific literature
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and initiatives independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Leadership/participation with campus programs and/or community service activities is a plus

Compensation

  • Hourly Wage Range: $20-$25 with actual contingent upon several factors such as the selected candidate’s education/work experience/training, others
