GENERAL STATEMENT
The Beach Pantry Graduate Assistant assists with coordinating, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the ASI Beach Pantry programs. The Beach Pantry Graduate Assistant helps manage ASI Beach Pantry program operations, budget, polices, and procedures under the direction of the Assistant Director, Beach Pantry Programs. Assists with administrative and operational duties of the ASI Beach Pantry programs by working with full-time and student staff in all areas of the pantry and kitchen.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Assists with various ASI Beach Pantry programs, including operational policy development and review, project proposal development, assessment, and food inventory tracking.
2. Perform necessary tasks and provide overall supervision to ensure safe and efficient daily operations of the ASI Beach Pantry programs, including kitchen, mobile pantry, and additional outreach events.
3. Receives, organizes, and maintains records and reports of services provided; maintains inventory of food and manages donations.
4. Maintain, manage, and outreach relations with community partners.
5. Develop and implement outreach plan to promote the ASI Beach Pantry and engage community interest.
6. Follow all food and safety guidelines including compliance matters such as temperature logs, food storage and receiving products.
7. Pick up food donations from on/off-campus locations. Drive university vehicles as needed including mobile pantry, ASI carts, van and/or truck.
8. Maintain a clean, clutter-free environment that is welcoming to all students.
9. Complete weekly reports and in-kind donation records.
10. Work with Assistant Director and Manager regarding the recruitment of volunteers.
11. Assists with annual department safety inspections and preventative maintenance requests and schedules.
12. Meets weekly with the Assistant Director.
13. Assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of the ASI Beach Pantry staff and volunteers.
14. Works cooperatively with other ASI graduate intern staff to plan and implement student programs and/or training sessions as needed.
15. Receives requests for computer, facility, and maintenance service and records such in the help-desk database.
16. Greets and assists students who utilize the ASI Beach Pantry programs with excellent customer service. Assists students with their experience.
17. Provides a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere while maintaining confidentiality and respect of students utilizing the ASI Beach Pantry programs and services.
18. Works on special projects as assigned.
19. Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. Enrolled in and making satisfactory progress in the preferred areas of Student Development in Higher Education, Master of Science in Nutritional Science Program, Master of Business Administration, Master's in Public Administration or related graduate degree program at CSULB. Concurrent enrollment in six or more graduate units at CSULB.
Knowledge and Abilities
A successful candidate will possess strong student development knowledge and the ability to connect well with students. Must be willing to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse group of student staff and volunteers. Willingness to research information and professional organizations. Exceptional customer skills are a must. Excellent interpersonal, written, time management and verbal communication skills. Must possess enhanced leadership skills and be able to work in a diverse environment.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse academic community; ability to use independent judgment, critical thinking skills, and analytical skill; ability to maintain professionalism and determine appropriate application of ASI and University policies or guidelines.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Current California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as determined by ASI.
- California Food Handler Card or the ability to obtain the CA Food Handler Card within the first 30 days of employment.
- Additional certifications and training may be required and must be completed within the first 30 days of employment.

Schedule
Must be available to work evenings and weekends during the academic year. Hours during summer and winter breaks are to be determined by supervisor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk or computer workstation and use hands and fingers to key data, sort documents, and file paperwork. The employee is frequently required to stand and be able to talk or hear in interactions with others. The employee is occasionally required to walk to other offices within the building and around the campus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally move or lift up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
