About this opportunity

  • Ericsson is a world leading provider of equipment and services to mobile network operators, with over 1,000 networks in more than 180 countries using Ericsson equipment. In the US, Ericsson is the #1 player in wireless networks (RAN), with global headquarters in Stockholm and Americas headquarters in Dallas, TX. At Market Area Americas (MACS), we are driving 5G adoption and preparing for 6G and the next wave of AI native, automated networks.
  • The MACS Strategy & Technology organization shapes Ericsson's mid  to long term technology agenda. This internship focuses on building an outside in view of Physical AI - the intersection of AI, humanoid/robotic systems, and edge computing - and translating it into clear recommendations for MACS S&T.

What you will do

  • Research the state of the art in physical AI, humanoids and robotics, including key technologies, platforms, and ecosystem players.
  • Analyze how edge computing, connectivity and distributed intelligence enable physical AI use cases relevant to Ericsson and its customers.
  • Identify and structure priority use cases (e.g., industrial operations, logistics, field service, telco/network operations) and assess their technical maturity and strategic relevance.
  • Synthesize findings into a concise, well structured report that highlights trends, gaps, and opportunities for Ericsson.
  • Develop outside in recommendations on where MACS S&T should focus (technology domains, experiments, partnerships) and present your conclusions to stakeholders.

You will bring

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Robotics, AI/ML, Data Science, or related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in AI + robotics/embodied intelligence and/or edge computing; familiarity with at least one of:
  • Robotics/embedded systems, control, or perception.
  • AI/ML (e.g., deep learning, foundation models, reinforcement learning).
  • Cloud native or edge/IoT architectures.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills - able to read technical material (papers, specs, documentation) and extract what matters.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, comfortable producing executive ready summaries and recommendations.
  • Self driven, curious, and comfortable working in an exploratory, research heavy environment.

Eligibility requirements:

  • 2.7+ GPA on a 4.0 scale or equivalent
  • Available for a full-time internship
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or Masters on a full-time basis at a 4-year college or university at the time of the internship
