About the Role
Overview

BigBear.ai is seeking a AI Innovation Intern to support the development of next-generation Common Operating Picture (COP) capabilities. This role is ideal for students with a background in business analytics, data science, or computer science who are interested in applying artificial intelligence to real-world operational and decision-support problems.The intern will work closely with engineering and program stakeholders to prototype AI-driven tools, including agent-based workflows, data fusion concepts, and automated insight generation systems that contribute to a unified operational picture. This is a highly hands-on role focused on experimentation, rapid prototyping, and applied AI development.


What you will do

• Support development of AI-driven prototypes contributing to a Common Operating Picture (COP) framework
• Assist in designing and testing AI agents for document analysis, summarization, and workflow automation
• Work with structured and unstructured data to generate actionable insights
• Prototype tools that integrate multiple data sources into unified outputs (dashboards, summaries, or reports)
• Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate and refine AI agent performance
• Document technical findings, experiments, and workflows for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Research and experiment with emerging AI/ML tools, including LLMs and agent frameworks
• Contribute to rapid prototyping efforts supporting government and enterprise decision workflows


What you need to have

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in: Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Information Systems, or related technical/business field

• Strong foundation in data analysis and quantitative problem solving
• Familiarity with Python, SQL, and/or JavaScript
• Understanding of basic data manipulation and analytical methods
• Strong analytical thinking and ability to translate business problems into technical solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, experimental environment


What we'd like you to have

• Experience with AI/ML tools (OpenAI APIs, LangChain, or similar frameworks)
• Exposure to data visualization or dashboarding tools
• Interest in agent-based systems, automation, or workflow orchestration
• Familiarity with Git, APIs, or software development practices
• Prior internship or project experience in analytics, AI, or software development
• Demonstrated ability to build prototypes or independent technical projects
