JOB TITLE: Data Analyst Volunteer
UNIT/DIVISION: Data & AI / Technology Division
DUTY STATION (City, Country): Cairo, Egypt
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Data & AI team in the Technology Division is seeking a motivated undergraduate intern to support data analysis activities across global AI and analytics projects at WFP. This internship offers practical experience in working with real-world datasets to support data cleaning, transformation, modelling, and visualization tasks. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Data Scientist, the intern will contribute to analytical workflows, help prepare data for reporting and decision-making, and support the development of Tableau dashboards and other data products.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support the Data & AI team in cleaning, validating, and organizing datasets for analysis and reporting.
2. Assist with data transformation and preparation processes to ensure datasets are accurate, structured, and ready for downstream use.
3. Contribute to analytical modelling and exploratory analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to business and operational needs.
4. Develop and update data visualizations and dashboards in Tableau to communicate key findings clearly and effectively.
5. Prepare documentation and summaries of analytical methods, outputs, and dashboard updates, and collaborate with team members under the supervision of the Lead Data Scientist.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
1. Cleaned and transformed datasets, analytical outputs, or supporting models produced during the internship, as applicable.
2. At least one Tableau dashboard, visualization, or end-of-internship presentation summarizing the work completed, insights generated, and recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
Knowledge & Skills:
Required: hands-on experience with Tableau and strong understanding of data cleaning, data transformation, data modelling, and visualization principles. Preferred: working knowledge of Python. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to communicate insights clearly are essential.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
