Job Summary

Summary<br>The Pharmacy Intern YR1 supports the mission of the Pharmacy department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care areas. Uses related computer software, gains experience in the interpretation, verification, order entry, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies. The Pharmacy Intern may also be involved in disseminating drug information.<br><br>Does this position require Patient Care?<br>No<br><br>Essential Functions<br>-Supports the mission of the Pharmacy Department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. <br>
-Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care areas. <br>
-Use related computer software, gain experience in the interpretation, verification, order entry, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies. <br>
-May also be involved in the dissemination of drug information. <br>
-Work collaboratively with the treatment team to maximize individual patient outcomes. <br>
-Counsel patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications and devices. <br>
-Monitor medication therapies through performing profile reviews, interpreting laboratory values, and ensuring drug regimens are consistent with medication use guidelines and protocols. <br>
-Assist the Pharmacist in gathering information to advise nurses, doctors, and patients on the proper and safe use of medications. <br>
-Fills and delivers medications requested by nursing units and, as needed, for automatic dispensing cabinets, after a complete check by a pharmacist. <br>
-Adheres to HIPAA regulations regarding confidentiality and patient privacy. <br>


 

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required and Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy preferred
