About the Role:
The Graduate Assistant Football position is designed to support the football program within an educational institution by providing both administrative and on-field assistance. This role plays a critical part in the development and execution of training sessions, game preparations, and athlete development plans. The Graduate Assistant will collaborate closely with coaching staff to analyze player performance and contribute to strategic planning. Additionally, this position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sports management and coaching while pursuing graduate studies. Ultimately, the role aims to enhance the overall success of the football program and foster the growth of student-athletes both on and off the field.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Acceptance into a graduate program at the employing educational institution.
- Demonstrated knowledge of football rules, strategies, and training techniques.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a football player or coach at the collegiate or high school level.
- Familiarity with video analysis software and statistical tools used in sports performance.
- Experience working with student-athletes in an academic or athletic setting.
- Certification in first aid, CPR, or athletic training.
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the head coach and coaching staff in planning and conducting daily practice sessions and game-day activities.
- Support athlete development through individual skill training, conditioning programs, and performance analysis.
- Manage administrative tasks such as coordinating team travel, maintaining equipment, and organizing practice schedules.
- Analyze game footage and statistical data to provide insights that inform coaching strategies and player improvements.
- Serve as a liaison between the coaching staff, athletes, and academic departments to ensure compliance with institutional and NCAA regulations.
Skills:
The required skills such as knowledge of football strategies and strong communication are essential for effectively assisting coaching staff and interacting with student-athletes. Organizational skills are used daily to manage schedules, coordinate logistics, and ensure smooth operation of team activities. Preferred skills like experience with video analysis software enable the Graduate Assistant to contribute valuable insights into player performance and game strategy. Leadership and teamwork skills facilitate collaboration with coaches, athletes, and academic personnel, fostering a supportive and productive environment. Additionally, certifications in first aid or athletic training enhance the ability to respond to athlete health and safety needs promptly.
