About the Role

Located 35km west of Toowoomba, the JBS Beef City Plant is part of the Beef City integrated feedlot, processing and farming facility. The cattle are walked from the feedlot to the plant, minimising stress, carbon emissions and transportation costs while simultaneously improving eating quality – one of only two in southern hemisphere. Specialising in grain-fed beef production, the plant employs approximately 950 employees with a current processing capacity of more than 1000 cattle per day, and has a strong reputation for producing high quality grain fed beef for key domestic and international customers.

About the Role

The JBS Beef City Plant is currently recruiting an Apprentice Maintenance Fitter to join our busy Maintenance Team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with optional overtime on Saturdays where available. Our conditions of employment are one of the best in the industry!

The Apprentice position is under the Beef City Maintenance EBA, considering classification of payment and conditions of employment. To be successful in this position, you must be aware you require to have a full driver’s license and a reliable car, our location is approximately 35 km from Toowoomba and there is no public transport available.  

 Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Proactive learning of ensuring maximum equipment uptime is achieved by providing effective and efficient mechanical preventative and breakdown maintenance
  • Follow safe work practices and procedures;
  • Work with and under the supervision of tradespeople;
  • Follow all instructions from tradespeople and supervisors;
  • Attending TAFE as required.

Renumeration

Adult apprentices’ rate of pay is a percentage of the trades rate, first year is 75 % ( $1,413.00 / week) with an increase for years 2 (80%) ,3 (84%) and 4 (90%)

About You

  • Demonstrated interest in the trade;
  • Previous experience within the meat industry advantageous
  • Organisational and time management abilities;
  • Completion of High School Certificate will be highly regarded
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement approach
  • Ability to support a broad variety of mechanical work
  • Good attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels and to work autonomously as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to work different shifts if required
  • Full Australian working rights
  • Current drivers licence and reliable transport
  • Good understanding of mathematics.
  • Basic understanding of computer systems.
