GENERAL STATEMENT
The Student Art Director formats the art and design of the feature spread and cover and oversees the work of the volunteer graphic designers and artists.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Works with the Student Managing Editor and Student Editor-in-Chief to coordinate a theme or concept for the cover and feature spread that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. \
2. Does in-house graphic design work, or delegates the work to graphic designers, illustrators, or photographers.
3. Assists with the initial training and advising of all section editors in programs in the Adobe Suite and 22 West Magazine design procedures.
4. Attends all weekly meetings of the 22 West Magazine management staff, and general staff meetings as required.
5. Coordinates special projects as agreed upon with the Student Editor-in-Chief and Student Media Manager.
6. Attend biweekly all staff meetings as required.
7. Prepare the department report for weekly meeting with 22 West Media Student Leads.
8. Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Must have at least one year of journalism-related or art experience and be enrolled in related discipline (journalism, art, design, etc.). Experience in Adobe Creative Suite and In Design software. Previous volunteer experience with 22 West Media preferred. Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
Knowledge and Abilities
Must be an excellent artist who also understands the intricacies and legalities of publishing such as grammar, punctuation, writing technique/ styles, slander, libel, and newspaper layout etc. The right candidate will possess proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign software.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Schedule
This position is a temporary, one academic-year appointment aligned with the CSULB academic calendar. The work schedule generally follows standard business hours. Scheduled hours may fluctuate depending on departmental needs. Occasional evening and weekend support is required.

The employee is occasionally required to walk to other offices within the building and around the campus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
