About the Role:

The Graduate Assistant for Women's Basketball plays a pivotal role in supporting the coaching staff and contributing to the overall success of the women's basketball program within an educational institution. This position is designed to provide graduate students with hands-on experience in athletic coaching, team management, and program development while pursuing their advanced degree. The assistant will be deeply involved in daily team operations, including practice planning, player development, and game preparation, ensuring that student-athletes perform at their highest potential both on and off the court. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with academic advisors and compliance officers to maintain eligibility standards and promote the holistic development of student-athletes. Ultimately, this position aims to foster leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a comprehensive understanding of collegiate athletics administration in a competitive educational environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Acceptance into a graduate program at the employing institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in basketball, either as a player, coach, or in a related capacity.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a graduate assistant or coaching intern in collegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to student-athlete eligibility and recruiting.
  • Experience with video analysis software and statistical tracking tools.
  • Background in sports psychology or athletic training.
  • Proven ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices, drills, and conditioning sessions to enhance player skills and team performance.
  • Support game-day operations including scouting opponents, preparing game strategies, and managing logistics.
  • Monitor and assist with the academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes by coordinating with academic support services.
  • Help organize team travel, equipment management, and compliance with NCAA and institutional regulations.
  • Contribute to recruiting efforts by evaluating prospective student-athletes and coordinating campus visits.
  • Maintain detailed records of player performance, injuries, and team statistics to inform coaching decisions.
  • Engage in community outreach and promotional activities to enhance the visibility and reputation of the women's basketball program.
