About the Role:
The Graduate Assistant Volleyball position is designed to support the university's volleyball program by providing both administrative and on-court assistance to the coaching staff. This role plays a critical part in developing student-athletes' skills, fostering team cohesion, and contributing to the overall success of the volleyball program. The Graduate Assistant will engage in planning and executing training sessions, analyzing game footage, and assisting with recruitment efforts. Additionally, this position offers a valuable opportunity for professional growth within collegiate athletics, combining practical coaching experience with academic advancement. Ultimately, the Graduate Assistant will help elevate the program's competitive performance while gaining hands-on experience in sports management and coaching.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience playing or coaching volleyball at the collegiate or competitive club level.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Enrollment in a graduate program at the university or eligibility to enroll.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a graduate assistant or coaching intern in a collegiate athletics program.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to volleyball.
- Experience with video analysis software and statistical tracking tools.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Background in sports psychology or athlete development.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the head coach and coaching staff in planning and conducting daily volleyball practices and training sessions.
- Support game preparation by analyzing opponent strategies, preparing scouting reports, and assisting with in-game coaching.
- Manage administrative tasks such as coordinating team travel, maintaining equipment, and organizing team schedules.
- Contribute to recruiting efforts by evaluating prospective student-athletes, communicating with recruits, and attending recruiting events.
- Provide academic support and mentorship to student-athletes to promote their success both on and off the court.
Skills:
The required skills such as strong communication and organizational abilities are essential for coordinating practice schedules, managing team logistics, and effectively conveying coaching instructions to athletes. Volleyball-specific knowledge and coaching experience enable the Graduate Assistant to contribute meaningfully to skill development and tactical planning. Preferred skills like familiarity with video analysis software enhance the ability to provide detailed feedback and improve team performance through data-driven insights. Leadership and interpersonal skills are used daily to motivate student-athletes and foster a positive, inclusive team culture.
