GENERAL STATEMENT
Under the direction of the Student Media Manager, the Student Executive Producer (SEP) is responsible for the creative direction and editorial content of 22 West Television. The SEP ensures the quality and integrity of all productions, oversees the recruitment and training of the production team, and collaborates with other branches of student media for cross-platform content creation. The SEP manages production schedules, coordinates content distribution, and ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Sets creative and editorial standards for 22 West Television. Provide a vision for content and ensure its continued production.
2. Writes scripts and film materials to supplement the work of staff, producer/writer interns and volunteers.
3. Oversees the editorial content of all productions. Conduct quality control on all content before publication or distribution. Ensure content complies with legal, ethical, and university standards.
4. Assists with recruitment, hiring and training of members of the production team.
5. Provides regular feedback, constructive comments, and training for all staff, interns, and volunteers.
6. Manages production schedules and establish deadlines for all projects.
7. Coordinates segment and show production calendars.
8. Collaborates with other branches of student media for cross-platform content creation.
9. Represents 22 West TV at official on- and off-campus meetings and functions.
10. Responds to comments, concerns, and questions from the university, public, and students in a timely manner.
11. Prepares production reports for team meetings with 22 West Television.
12. Forwards nominations for outstanding work and potential entries into regional and national competitions.
13. Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Must have one year of media production experience or the equivalent; a minimum of one year experience with student media in college or high school is preferred, including volunteer experience in the film or TV. Film & Electronic Arts, Journalism, Communications majors or a related discipline preferred. Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
Knowledge and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of media production process, including camera and sound production, editing; working knowledge of the legal concepts of “libel,” “obscenity,” and “material interference and substantial physical disruption of educational activities;” working knowledge of public open meeting laws, public records/freedom of information acts, and the policies of the CSU, CSULB and ASI. Must also be familiar with basic print production processes. Must be familiar with the defenses to libel and is expected to read the libel manual included in the Associated Press Stylebook or otherwise demonstrate familiarity. Must be able to recognize a call for formal correction and be prepared to respond, as the law and good judgment require. Ability to effectively present information to university management, student groups, and/or boards of directors.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Schedule
This position is an annual, year-round position that works through the Winter & Summer academic breaks. The work schedule generally follows standard business hours. Scheduled hours may fluctuate depending on departmental needs. Occasional evening and weekend support is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk or computer workstation and use hands and fingers to key data, sort documents, and file paperwork. The employee is frequently required to stand and be able to talk or hear in interactions with others. The employee is occasionally required to walk to other offices within the building and around the campus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
