Job Summary
The Marketing & Foundation Associate Intern is an educational internship designed for an individual interested in healthcare marketing, nonprofit foundation development, community outreach, branding, graphic design, project management, public relations, and rural healthcare leadership.
This role works directly with the Director of Marketing & Foundation to learn and assist with a wide range of marketing and foundation activities, including project coordination, community outreach, flyer and collateral distribution, event support, graphic design, AI-supported marketing, branding, campaign planning, Foundation development, and board-related communication.
The internship is intended to provide hands-on learning, mentorship, professional exposure, and portfolio-building opportunities while supporting the mission, visibility, and community connection of Mid Valley Hospital & Clinic and the Mid Valley Hospital Foundation.
Requirements
Educational Background & Experience
- Interest in marketing, healthcare, communications, graphic design, nonprofit work, public relations, or community outreach.

No prior professional marketing experience is required.

The intern may not share internal information, photos, documents, patient stories, staff information, donor information, or organizational materials without approval.
Essential Job Functions
The intern will learn how marketing projects are organized, tracked, and completed from concept to final delivery. This may include assisting with project trackers, task lists, timelines, campaign materials, files, photos, and brand assets. The intern may also help prepare simple meeting notes, project summaries, and recap documents while learning how to prioritize multiple hospital, clinic, and Foundation needs.
Community Outreach & Flyer Distribution
The intern will support community outreach efforts that help build visibility, trust, and local engagement. This may include distributing approved flyers, brochures, business cards, and outreach materials throughout the community. The intern may also help maintain outreach lists, prepare event packets, track delivery locations, and learn how rural healthcare organizations build strong local relationships.
Event Support & Volunteer Engagement
The intern will gain hands-on experience supporting hospital, clinic, Foundation, and community events. This may include assisting with event preparation, setup, takedown, supply organization, booth materials, volunteer check-in, and greeting community members. The intern may also help with post-event recap notes, attendance tracking, and ideas to improve event visibility and follow-up.
Graphic Design & Branding
The intern will learn basic principles of healthcare and Foundation design while supporting brand consistency. This may include creating draft flyers, posters, social graphics, event materials, and other branded pieces using Canva, Adobe Express, or other approved tools. The intern will learn proper logo use, color standards, typography, accessibility-friendly design, and the difference between hospital/clinic branding and Foundation branding.
AI-Assisted Marketing
The intern will learn how AI can support responsible, efficient, and creative marketing workflows. This may include using AI to brainstorm campaign ideas, captions, slogans, outlines, social media drafts, flyers, emails, and campaign concepts. The intern will also learn prompt-writing basics, brand voice, human review, accuracy, privacy protection, and the importance of never entering patient information, donor private information, employee confidential information, PHI, or sensitive organizational information into AI tools.
Foundation Development & Donor Engagement
The intern will learn how a healthcare Foundation is built, promoted, and supported. This may include assisting with Foundation campaign materials, donor awareness pieces, membership promotion, outreach materials, event collateral, and organization of Foundation files and graphics. The intern will also learn how mission, vision, values, stewardship, and trust guide donor communication, scholarships, giving campaigns, online donations, and community involvement.
Board, Commissioner & Leadership Exposure
The intern will gain introductory exposure to public hospital governance, Foundation board support, and leadership communication. This may include learning the difference between a Board of Commissioners and a Foundation Board of Directors, organizing non-confidential materials, preparing draft updates, and observing how marketing and Foundation priorities connect to leadership goals. The intern must maintain confidentiality and will not participate in confidential executive sessions, legal discussions, personnel matters, donor-sensitive discussions, or protected patient information unless specifically approved and trained.
Additional Duties
The Marketing & Foundation Associate Intern may assist with social media drafts, recruitment campaign support, service line marketing, competitor research, community event research, website content organization, Foundation visibility planning, photography coordination, internal campaign materials, volunteer tracking, and simple reporting. These duties will be learning-based and assigned under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Foundation. All public-facing work must be reviewed and approved before use.
