Where You’ll Work

This is an on-site position based in our modern, purpose-built laboratory facility in Fredericton, New Brunswick.


You'll work alongside experienced laboratory professionals in a collaborative environment where safety, quality, and continuous learning are priorities. This role offers a minimum of 32 hours per week, with schedules that may vary Monday-Sunday based on operational needs.


As a student team member, you'll gain hands-on experience in a professional microbiology laboratory while contributing to work that supports food safety.


What You Will Do

Luminultra is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician Student to join our laboratory team in Fredericton from June through September 2026.


In this role, you'll gain practical laboratory experience while supporting microbiology testing and quality processes. Working closely with laboratory team members, you'll help ensure samples, equipment, and records are prepared and maintained to the highest standards. This position offers a base hourly wage of $16–$17 CAD, depending on experience.


You will support key organizational objectives and have key responsibilities such as:

  • Receive, sort, and prepare samples for microbiology testing while following established laboratory and food safety procedures. 
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation. 
  • Prepare laboratory media, supplies, and equipment for testing activities. 
  • Support environmental monitoring and testing programs. 
  • Assist with laboratory setup, organization, maintenance, and cleanliness. 
  • Enter and maintain information within laboratory management systems. 
  • Help update laboratory procedures, work instructions, and documentation as required. 
  • Follow all laboratory safety requirements, including WHMIS and quality assurance protocols. 
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory team members to support daily operations. 
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Who You Are

You're a detail-oriented and dependable student who enjoys working in a structured laboratory environment. You're eager to learn, take initiative, and contribute to a team that values quality, safety, and continuous improvement. 

 

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Current enrollment in a post-secondary program in microbiology, biology, biotechnology, food science, or another related scientific discipline. 
  • Eligibility to work in Canada. 
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures and protocols. 
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications. 

 

Assets that would help you stand out:

  • Previous laboratory experience through coursework, co-op placements, research projects, or employment. 
  • WHMIS training. 
  • Familiarity with aseptic techniques, sample handling, or microbiological testing methods. 
  • Experience working with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or data collection processes.
