Description
Work Performed
- Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of campus sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, landscaped areas, and outdoor gathering spaces.
- Support Facilities staff with basic non-technical maintenance and repair tasks under supervision.
- Assist with furniture moving, office relocations, event setup/teardown, and room reconfigurations across campus.
- Assist with painting preparation, patching, hanging boards or pictures, replacing ceiling tiles, and other general facility support tasks.
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance shops, storage areas, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with preventive maintenance support tasks including equipment cleaning, maintenance preparation activities, and other support functions under supervision.
- Assist with snow and ice removal during winter weather conditions as needed.
- Report maintenance, appearance, or safety concerns to Facilities staff.
- Operate basic hand tools and grounds equipment safely after training.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Facilities Department by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.
Requirements
- Must be a current Newman University student enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work 12–20 hours per week with scheduling coordinated around class availability.
- Reliable attendance, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently after training.
- Preferred but not required: experience using basic hand tools or lawn equipment.
Physical Requirements During Work Shift:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk and climb stairs frequently.
- Ability to carry supplies and equipment up and down stairs daily.
- Ability to bend, stoop or kneel repeatedly.
- Ability to reach overhead and maintain your balance daily.
- Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
