Intro to Position
The Treasury and Investment Intern will work alongside NPR’s small Treasury and Investment team, who oversees the organization’s $700 million of cash and investments. Invested in a diversified set of asset classes, the intern will be exposed to a variety of cash and investment management strategies, analytics, and reporting. They will have the opportunity to assist on projects related to investment models, data, monitoring, and reporting tools. This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the organization’s Investment and Treasury functions including maintaining and developing reporting on NPR’s cash and investments, debt, and liquidity.
- Working closely with staff, develop investment manager reviews and reports to analyze management fees, audited financials, performance, and market values. Assist in department reviews of daily cash, portfolios’ asset allocations, and private investments.
- Maintain a database of the organization's rating agency debt ratios and other key financial metrics. Compile and compare historical benchmark and economic data in relation to the portfolios and financial models.
- Assist in the organization’s finance functions including participation in organizing, developing, and reconciling historical reports on NPR related to flows, budget, and accounting activities. Attend meetings and take notes. Work with client relationship software to help ensure all necessary documentation is retained and organized.

Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and strong attention to detail is required. A self-starter with willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects is preferred.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to perform research and make recommendations based on research.
- Proficiency using a PC along with Microsoft Office and Google software. Excel expertise required (including charting, formulas and other advanced functions).
- Ability to meet deadlines and effectively handle multiple assignments while working on a small team.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills as well as report development experience.
- Familiarity with investment management, treasury, and financial statements preferred.

Education Requirements
- Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship.
Work Location & Requirements
- Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role require duties better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be in the office at the Washington, D.C. location at least 1 day a week. The employee must also reside in an NPR-supported location based on the number of on-site days they choose.

Schedule
- This is a part-time position for 15-20 hours per week. Scheduling hours are flexible during the department's business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30-5:30 pm. This is a hybrid position (remote work/on-site) with at least one day per week to be scheduled in-person at the DC headquarters.
Compensation
Hourly Rate The U.S.-based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $20.00 per hour. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum hourly rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
