About the Role

About Us:

Norsat International Inc. is seeking a student enrolled in an undergraduate program in Accounting to work for the Fall term. Throughout the internship, you will have a hands-on real-world experience with different team members ranging from the CEO & President, Business Analyst Planner, Inside sales and Customer Service team. In this internship, you will be exposed to learning, development and mentoring sessions while being offered a chance to add value through your unique and fresh perspective.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage full cycle accounts payable functions and prepare related reports for analysis
  • Customer management and ability to resolve collection issues quickly
  • Assist with reconciliations for multiple credit cards and follow up on discrepancies
  • Be familiar with cash management and bank reconciliations
  • Manage employee expense reimbursement
  • Posting Journal entries and accounts reconciliations
  • Amortization of capital assets and intangibles
  • Assisting with inventory counts and cost rollups
  • Perform month-end closing tasks and accruals
  • Provide support for weekly and monthly financial reporting data
  • Using Power BI to create reports on demand for financial data analysis
  • Perform other general accounting duties and special projects as required
  • Provide coverage for other team members when necessary

What You'll Bring:

  • The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or upcoming graduate with degree in Commerce, Accounting or Business Administration who has completed an internship or co-op within a corporate environment
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, financial statements, general ledger concepts
  • Familiarity with Microsoft software and applications
  • Positive working attitude and willingness to learn
  • Strong interpersonal, organization and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use apps to perform tasks
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Enjoy working in the office environment and collaborating with colleagues
  • Team player and able to initiate corrective action in a positive manner

Work Hours: 

Minimum 16 hrs./ week and up to 24 hrs per week; minimum 4 months and maximum 6 months; specific weekly schedule to be determined closer to the start date or during the interview. The internship has 460 hours in total.
