We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Summer Intern Accounts Receivable/Accountant to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 2540 N. 1st street, Suite 300 in San Jose. 

Position Summary:

 

GreenWaste is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern – Accounts Receivable (AR) Analyst/Accountant to support the Accounts Receivable team during a temporary three-month assignment. This role will assist with a variety of financial and administrative tasks, gaining hands-on experience in billing, collections, reconciliations, and customer account support within a fast-paced finance environment.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

  • Support AR Analysts and finance team members with day-to-day financial operations 
  • Perform account reconciliations, including general ledger accounts related to credit cards and other AR accounts 
  • Assist with billing processes and collections efforts 
  • Support the Unclaimed Property initiative, including: 
    • Sending customer notifications (8,000+ accounts)
    • Running dialer campaigns
    • Managing shared inbox communications
    • Preparing refund files and posting refunds
  • Assist with bank closure transition activities, including customer outreach and follow-up 
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks 
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Gain hands-on accounting experience through real projects, mentorship, process improvement ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and site visits that connect finance to operations.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of methods, practices, terminology, and procedures used in general accounting.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues quickly and escalate appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel
  • Software knowledge in the following is preferred: Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, SharePoint, PowerPoint


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or in progress)
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • 1+ years of accounting experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team


Work Environment:

The available Intern Accounts Receivable/ Accountant position is a full-time nonexempt position. Standard work is Monday – Friday with office hours from 8am - 5pm. This position is based at the GreenWaste corporate office and reports to the Controller.
