Project Description

This internship is a project‑based learning opportunity within the Test Engineering organization. The project focuses on the design and development of data automation and visualization prototypes using manufacturing test data.
The intern will work on a defined analytics project to explore how manufacturing data can be transformed into structured datasets and visualized to illustrate key manufacturing indicators. Through this project, the intern will learn how data analytics tools are applied in a semiconductor manufacturing environment and how engineering teams define and interpret performance metrics.
This internship is intended for learning and skills development and does not involve shift work, daily production operations, or replacement of regular workforce activities.

Project Objectives (Learning Objectives)

By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to:
  • Understand the structure and characteristics of semiconductor manufacturing test data.
  • Learn fundamental concepts of manufacturing Key Performance Indicators (critical metrics) such as cycle time, Work‑In‑Progress (WIP), and line health indicators.
  • Apply data extraction, transformation, and visualization techniques in a controlled project setting.
  • Develop problem‑solving and analytical thinking skills through a real‑world engineering data case study.
  • Communicate technical findings through dashboards and a structured project presentation.

Project Scope

The internship project includes:
  • Studying selected manufacturing test data sources and understanding associated data definitions.
  • Designing a prototype data workflow to demonstrate data extraction and transformation concepts.
  • Developing prototype dashboards using Power BI and/or Tableau to visualize selected manufacturing KPIs (e.g., lot disposition cycle time, WIP aging, line trend indicators).
  • Documenting data assumptions, critical metric definitions, and visualization logic as part of the learning project.
  • Presenting project outcomes, insights, and lessons learned at the end of the internship.

Learning Opportunities

The intern will gain exposure to:
  • Semiconductor test manufacturing processes (conceptual understanding).
  • Engineering data workflows and analytics use cases.
  • Data visualization principles for engineering and manufacturing metrics.
  • Industry‑standard analytics tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
  • Professional project documentation and technical presentation skills.

Deliverables

At the completion of the internship, the intern is expected to produce:
  • One or more prototype dashboards developed using Power BI and/or Tableau as a learning artifact.
  • A prototype data automation or transformation workflow demonstrating data handling concepts.
  • Project documentation describing data sources, critical metric definitions, and dashboard logic.
  • A final project report or presentation summarizing the problem statement, approach, solution design, and learning outcomes.

Impact of Project

This project provides:
  • A structured learning experience for the intern in manufacturing data analytics.
  • Prototype‑level insights that may inform future engineering analytics initiatives.
  • Enhanced documentation and visualization concepts that can be reviewed by engineering teams.

Skillsets Required

  • Basic programming or scripting knowledge (e.g., Python, SQL, or equivalent).
  • Interest in data analytics, automation, or visualization.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Power BI and/or Tableau.
  • Analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good documentation and communication skills.

Course of Interest

  • Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Industrial, or related)
  • Data Analytics / Data Science
  • Computer Science / Information Systems
  • Statistics or Applied Mathematics

Duration Period

Minimum 5 months (Full‑semester internship)
