Our clerkship program

For a head start in your legal career, apply for a clerkship in our Sydney office. You’ll work alongside some of the most experienced lawyers in Australia and gain first-hand insight into the type of work you could do as a lawyer at Allens.

You’ll get to be part of a team, contributing to real matters and be supported by a partner, senior lawyer and a junior lawyer, who will ensure you get the most out of your clerkship, get to know our people, and thrive.

We believe we stand out as an employer because of our high-quality technical training, strong learning culture and focus on building capability that makes a real impact for our clients. We’ll work with you to develop your understanding of commercial law and build the skills you need to thrive as a lawyer, while being involved in some of the market's most complex domestic and global transactions.

We offer ten and five week clerkship programs over summer, designed to give you a consistent experience and invaluable insight into our work and the clients we support.

  • Ten week clerkship (two different practice group rotations): November 2026 – February 2027
  • Five week clerkship (one practice group rotation): starting in either the first or second rotation

Our clerkship program is a stepping stone to bigger things—for many, it’s the first step toward building a long‑term career with us. Many clerks go on to become graduates at Allens. Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • a personalised induction program that introduces you to our people and the work we do;
  • on-the-job training with support from a partner, senior lawyer and a junior lawyer, who will act as your performance coach, development lawyer and buddy—providing guidance, feedback and coaching as you learn;
  • learning opportunities across practice areas and partners, as we don't work in silos;
  • the chance to work on real matters with many of Australia's and the world's top 100 companies;
  • opportunities to get involved in community and pro bono work, and learn about our committees and interest groups;
  • exposure to our alliance with Linklaters and insight into international and client secondment opportunities;
  • seminars that build future-focused skills to help you become an excellent lawyer and thrive in an ever‑changing business environment;
  • social events, where you will really get to know us; and
  • the opportunity to network with some of the best in the profession.
