About the Role

Job Title: Safety Intern

Department: Safety

Reports To: Director of Safety


POSITION PURPOSE:

The Safety Intern supports the daily management, administration, security and operation of the Safety Department. In addition, the Safety Coordinator supports the SMS through computer systems management and integration, and conducts analytical projects assigned by the SMS Manager.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in the administering, facilitating. monitoring the implementation and development of the Safety Management System (SMS)

2. Assists with the implementation of the risk-based analysis, accident prevention and reduction activities.

3. Assists with the development and implementation of software Systems utilized by the Kalitta air safety department.

4. Through the use of Reliance, aid in the data collection process of all voluntary programs involving Reliance.

5. Provide technical support in the use and development of Reliance for all participating departments.

6. Assist in preparing management trending analysis reports and charts.

7. Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and statistical data required to keep the SMS groups and the administrator informed of the status of the programs.

8. Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

1. Ability to operate independently with little daily supervision.

2. Thorough understanding of Federal OSHA / State OSHA / Airport safety regulations (desired).

3. Experience in airline or military operations (desired).


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

The ability to read, write and understand spoken and written English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to give verbal and written direction to assigned staff.


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Work experience, preferably in 14CFR Part 121 air carrier operations or 135 operations; training, quality control, maintenance, operations, safety and security - or a combination thereof.

2. Basic computer programming and statistical methods experience preferred.

3. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs, including database and spreadsheet programs.

4. Proven project management and analytical skills.

5. Previous experience maintaining and enhancing corporate safety standards and safe operation practices preferred

6. Proficient verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

7. Strong work ethic, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and a positive attitude toward teamwork.

8. Willingness to assist Managers, Directors and staff at the highest level of professionalism.

9. Ability to handle numerous projects at one time and meet deadlines.

10. Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision in support of the Reliance and the SMS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional heavy lifting may be required for routine audits and survey of hangars and buildings. Walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, and the utilization of stairs and ladders will be required. Wearing of PPE (Safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.) will be required, must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Working outside in inclement weather may be necessary. Hazardous work areas requiring PPE will be encountered. The employee is frequently required to use a computer terminal and telephone.
