OVERVIEW
Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) employs student-focused professionals with equity-mindsets. Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation led by a 14-member board of elected student leaders. ASI is an auxiliary organization authorized by the California State University Board of Trustees to perform Student Life functions for Cal Poly Pomona students. ASI provides opportunities for student engagement, student leadership and employment, and a multitude of Student Life programs and services e.g., recreation and wellbeing, student union and activities, student government, clubs and organizations, food pantry, and childcare. The administrative and student support areas of ASI include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI employs approximately 500 part-time students and 60 full-time staff members. ASI accepts the responsibility for conscientiously managing mandatory student fees and state-owned facilities: $18M annual operating budget, $5M annual debt service, approximately $24M in reserves, and 294,253 square feet of student space (student union, recreation center, and pool). ASI is in the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 28,000 students.

POSITION DEFINITION
Under the general supervision of the Data and Assessment Coordinator, the Data Analyst Project Lead directs and supports the project work of the Data Analyst Assistants while also contributing to data-related projects. This position ensures the timely execution of assessment, evaluation, and research initiatives and provides mentorship and guidance to peers. The position leads work in the collection, inspection, cleansing, transforming, modeling, and analysis of data. This role requires strong leadership, advanced analytical skills, independent judgment and decision-making, and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provide day-to-day direction, support, and guidance to support Data Analyst Assistants projects
- Coordinates with key stakeholders for project goals, deliverables, and timelines
- Lead project-based staff assignments, monitoring team workload and ensuring timely project completion
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Data Analyst Assistants regarding project questions and technical challenges
- Assists management with overall assessment initiatives, timelines, and data management
- Leads data collection, organization, analysis, and dissemination of significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Works with key stakeholders and utilizes creative storytelling skills in data visualization tasks and presentations
- Leads development and enhancement of department and organization dashboards
- Collaborates with management to improve data management processes and team workflows
- Effectively utilizes and optimizes department and enterprise analytical tools & develop standard operating procedures and training for broader staff analytical tool utilization
- Assists in the development of ASI’s assessment, evaluation, and research processes and protocols
- Remains intellectually curious in all assessment, evaluation, and research project work
- Maintains open communication with all staff and key stakeholders
- Safeguards all data in all practices and responsibilities
- Attend all ASI trainings, meetings, and workshops, as required
- Approaches work with a growth mindset and seeks new and creative ways to accomplish goals
- Maintains a high standard of service and support for ASI team members
- Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field. A degree in a social science or humanities field with significant coursework in data analysis or research methods may also be considered.
- Two years of experience utilizing data analytics, visualization, and management software (i.e., Tableau, Excel, R Studio, etc.) as a Data Analyst or in a similar analytical role
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Advanced analytical and technical skills with the ability to tell a compelling story with data
- Functional knowledge of assessment, evaluation, and research-related software, including but not limited to Qualtrics, MS Forms, Dedoose, Quirkos, NVivo, SPSS, and other survey and statistical tools
- Experience with Python, SQL, or R
- Knowledge and understanding of assessment and evaluation methodologies with the ability to assist staff with assessment methodologies
- High functioning knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with culturally diverse populations, form partnerships, and work collaboratively within a goal-oriented team
- Strong ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and proactively seek new and creative ways to achieve goals
- Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively, and work productively without close supervision
- Ability to follow routine and non-routine verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to analyze and solve problems, draw valid conclusions, and develop alternate recommendations
- Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY
Employment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States. In addition, student employees must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period. Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds.
MANDATED REPORTING REQUIREMENT
In compliance with the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and the CSU Executive Order 1083, each ASI employee is designated as a mandated reporter and is required to sign an Acknowledgment of Mandated Reporter Status and Legal Duty to Report Child Abuse and Neglect.
