Description of Job: Learn and contribute to plant growth regulator (PGR) and Biostimulant research in an industrial setting at Sumitomo Biorational Company (SBC). The individual will work alongside laboratory and greenhouse scientists to complete a targeted three-month project involving evaluation of PGRs and biostimulants on crop plants. The intern will learn experimental design, execution, data collection, and analysis. When possible, projects will be tailored to fit the candidates ’skill set and interest area, and will encompass plant physiology, analysis of plant responses to treatments, and interpretation of data. These projects will support the development of biorational products for agriculture.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and conduct all work in strict compliance with applicable safety requirements,
  • standard operating practices (SOPs), protocols and/or guidelines.
  • Assist Crop Enhancement scientists in the screening and development of PGR and Biostimulant products.
  • Assist in developing methods to assess effects of new and existing PGR and biostimulants.
  • Growth and maintenance of different plant species for growth chamber and greenhouse assays.
  • Accurate record keeping of experimental work and maintenance of electronic laboratory notebook (ELN).
  • Data analysis, including preparation of graphs and reports, and data entry into the ELN system.

Experience:

  • Experience working in a laboratory, and/or greenhouse, and/or field environments.
  • Works well in teams.

Education:

  • Undergraduate or admitted undergraduate in a BS biology, plant science, crop science, agronomy, horticulture, or related program.

Travel:

  • Possible local field trips.

Base Salary: The estimated annual base salary for this position ranges from: 
$19.00 to $20.00.  Individual pay is based upon location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
