Job Summary

Job Title: Seasonal IT Intern
Position Type: Temporary / Seasonal
 Location: On-site (with potential for limited remote work)
Reports To: Assistant Director of IT / IT Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Seasonal IT Intern will support the Windward IT department during off-season periods by assisting with critical operational tasks related to hardware lifecycle, device management, and basic system maintenance. The intern will engage in physical device handling, software provisioning, and data tasks, ensuring infrastructure readiness for upcoming academic or operational terms.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and inventory computing devices and peripherals across designated locations.
  • Physically retrieve, clean, and prepare hardware for re-deployment.
  • Wipe, re-image, and assign devices using the organization’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) system.
  • Update asset records and reconcile discrepancies within inventory systems.
  • Assist with seasonal systems tasks such as directory audits, user provisioning/deprovisioning, and structured data clean-up.
  • Perform basic automation or scripting work under supervision using PowerShell, Python, or shell scripting environments.
  • Support spreadsheet-based reporting, particularly in Microsoft Excel or equivalent productivity software.
  • Engage professionally with staff and faculty while performing technical duties in user-facing spaces.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have the ability to dependably transport themselves to their duty campus on a daily basis.  
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor and clear verbal communication.
  • Evident willingness to learn in a fast-paced, task-focused environment.
  • Familiarity with Windows or ChromeOS device ecosystems.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets (sorting, filtering, formulas).
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and update documentation when necessary.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with imaging tools, deployment suites, or automation pipelines.
  • Exposure to MDM platforms (JumpCloud, Meraki) is a plus.
  • Basic experience with one or more scripting tools (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Prior hands-on experience in hardware handling or technical support.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, asset tracking platforms, or network environments.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and transport devices (up to ~40 lbs), prolonged periods of standing, and frequent movement across campus or office facilities.

Duration: Starting Mid-May, running until Mid to Late August
