About the Role

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a motivated Mechanical Design Intern (ideally 6 months, mandatory internship) to join our Hardware team in Schönaich (close to Stuttgart), with a flexible start date. If you're excited about precision mechanical design and want to see your drawings go on real prototype hardware delivered to customers — this internship puts you right at the heart of humanoid robot development.

HERE'S WHERE YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Create and update detailed joint assembly drawings for robot prototypes — documentation that feeds directly into the build process and goes out with customer deliverables

  • Maintain and improve BOMs for actuator assemblies and robot structures, keeping the material record accurate and useful as designs evolve through prototype iterations

  • Design actuator brackets, mounting interfaces, and structural elements in SolidWorks — the parts that determine how forces are transferred and how assemblies actually come together

  • Run tolerance stack-up analyses for joint fit and assembly, ensuring designs that work in CAD also work in real-world manufacturing and assembly

  • Support modular actuator kit design, and collaborate with electrical and software teams to make sure mechanical interfaces make sense across disciplines

WHO YOU ARE

  • Enrolled BSc/MSc student in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics — with an eye for detail and a feel for how things are actually built, not just modelled

  • Proficient in SolidWorks or an equivalent parametric CAD tool; comfortable with STEP/IGES file exchange in multi-disciplinary environments where not everyone uses the same software

  • Solid grounding in GD&T, DFM principles, and assembly drawing release — you understand that a drawing is a communication tool as much as a geometry record

  • You've done tolerance analysis — RSS or worst-case — and understand why it matters for fit, function, and avoiding rework on a prototype build

  • A genuine interest in precision robotics; any exposure to gearbox, bearing, or motor integration is a real bonus

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Flexible working hours when life takes unexpected turns

  • Company support for gym memberships through Wellpass

  • Birthday vouchers

  • Drinks and coffee (free of charge, of course)

  • Snacks and fruit for all employees, as well as breakfast every Monday

  • Regular global team-building events such as boot camps, skiing, and summer BBQs

  • An international team with long-term prospects

  • Highly competent colleagues who are experts in their field and happy to support you in your learning and growth

  • Modern office space

  • Our company's WG (upon availability)

About us

HACKING THE PHYSICS AND ECONOMICS OF MOTION CONTROL WITH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

At Synapticon, we are revolutionizing motion control for robotics and machines—right at the point of motion.
Our approach is completely new: we integrate previously separate components such as motors, drives, sensors, and gearboxes into seamless units. At the same time, we are digitizing performance and quality factors that previously depended on expensive mechanical manufacturing.
World-leading innovators are choosing Synapticon to pave their way into the future of intelligent, motion-controlled systems.
