About the Role

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a motivated Robot Software Integration Intern (ideally 6 months,  mandatory internship) to join our Robotics team in Schönaich (close to Stuttgart), with a flexible start date. If you're passionate about bringing humanoid robots to life — from EtherCAT-based actuator interfaces to ROS2 control stacks — this is your chance to work on systems that are in production, not just in a lab.

HERE'S WHERE YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Develop and test ros2_control hardware interfaces for drives — the software layer that connects commands to physical actuator behaviour on real hardware

  • Build and tune URDF/xacro models for humanoid prototypes, providing the robot descriptions that drive both control and simulation

  • Implement and debug nodes for joint state and sensor data pipelines — keeping information flow between hardware and software clean and reliable

  • Support EtherCAT master bring-up and commissioning on hardware testbenches, helping new actuator configurations reach integration-ready state

  • Work closely with mechanical and electrical teams to make sure everything fits together — physically and in software

WHO YOU ARE

  • Enrolled MSc student in Robotics, Computer Science, or Mechatronics — ideally with some hands-on project or lab experience to draw from

  • Solid C++17 skills for system-level work, with Python for the scripts and tooling that keep development moving

  • You've worked with ROS2 hands-on — rclcpp, launch files, tf2 — and experience with ros2_control would put you a step ahead

  • You understand real-time concepts and are comfortable working close to hardware; EtherCAT basics are a bonus

  • You've modelled robots in URDF or xacro — even if it started as a university project

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Flexible working hours when life takes unexpected turns

  • Company support for gym memberships through Wellpass

  • Birthday vouchers

  • Drinks and coffee (free of charge, of course)

  • Snacks and fruit for all employees, as well as breakfast every Monday

  • Regular global team-building events such as boot camps, skiing, and summer BBQs

  • An international team with long-term prospects

  • Highly competent colleagues who are experts in their field and happy to support you in your learning and growth

  • Modern office space

  • Our company's WG (upon availability)
