About the Role

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a motivated Computer Vision Intern (ideally 6 months, mandatory internship) to join our Safety Systems team in Schönaich (close to Stuttgart), with a flexible start date. If you're passionate about real-time 3D perception and want to contribute to safety-critical systems that keep people safe around humanoid robots — this is a uniquely impactful place to develop your skills.

HERE'S WHERE YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Implement and benchmark 3D person detection algorithms that fuse depth, RGB, and point cloud data — the core perception layer for knowing where humans are relative to the robot at all times

  • Build and integrate Safe Human Detection (SHD) prototype pipeline, turning raw sensor data into actionable, safety-relevant information

  • Develop test harnesses and validating that the safety interface behaves correctly under all defined conditions

  • Run benchmarking and data collection to generate the kind of reproducible, documented evidence that a real certification process requires

WHO YOU ARE

  • Enrolled MSc student in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Robotics — with a strong interest in applied perception and real-world systems

  • Strong Python skills and working knowledge of C++, with the ability to move between rapid prototyping and more structured, maintainable implementation

  • Experience with computer vision and 3D depth sensing — RealSense, Azure Kinect, or similar — and a genuine understanding of what the data actually represents

  • Familiar with point cloud processing tools like PCL or Open3D

  • Basic knowledge of the ROS2 perception stack; interest in safety-critical systems and functional safety context is a plus

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Flexible working hours when life takes unexpected turns

  • Company support for gym memberships through Wellpass

  • Birthday vouchers

  • Drinks and coffee (free of charge, of course)

  • Snacks and fruit for all employees, as well as breakfast every Monday

  • Regular global team-building events such as boot camps, skiing, and summer BBQs

  • An international team with long-term prospects

  • Highly competent colleagues who are experts in their field and happy to support you in your learning and growth

  • Modern office space

  • Our company's WG (upon availability)
