About the Role

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a motivated Electrical Engineering Intern (ideally 6 months, mandatory internship) to join our Hardware team in Schönaich (close to Stuttgart), with a flexible start date. If you're ready to get hands-on with wiring harnesses, power distribution, and PCB bring-up on a real humanoid robot prototype — this internship puts you right at the intersection of power electronics and functional safety.

HERE'S WHERE YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Design and document wiring harnesses and cable routing for humanoid prototypes — the electrical backbone that connects every subsystem on the robot and has to survive real motion

  • Develop connector interface sheets and pin-out documentation, creating the reference material that keeps electrical integration unambiguous across mechanical and software teams

  • Support compute board evaluation — running signal integrity checks and analysing change requests to make sure the hardware revision is sound before it enters the build cycle

  • Design power distribution: supply rail sizing, protection circuitry, and cable derating — the work that ensures power reaches every component safely and reliably under real operating conditions

  • Conduct EMC and shielding review for EtherCAT and FSoE signal cabling, and manage the BOM for electrical assemblies throughout the project lifecycle

WHO YOU ARE

  • Enrolled BSc/MSc student in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics — with hands-on experience that goes beyond lectures and simulation

  • Comfortable with schematic capture in KiCad or Altium — you've worked through real schematics before, not just read about them

  • Practical experience with cable harness design and connector selection, including the engineering judgment that comes from having made a choice and seen what happens

  • Solid understanding of power electronics basics — motor drive supply rails, protection circuits, cable sizing — and the consequences of getting them wrong

  • EtherCAT and differential signal basics are a plus; EMC and shielding awareness is genuinely appreciated on a robot platform where signal integrity directly affects safety-rated communication

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Flexible working hours when life takes unexpected turns

  • Company support for gym memberships through Wellpass

  • Birthday vouchers

  • Drinks and coffee (free of charge, of course)

  • Snacks and fruit for all employees, as well as breakfast every Monday

  • Regular global team-building events such as boot camps, skiing, and summer BBQs

  • An international team with long-term prospects

  • Highly competent colleagues who are experts in their field and happy to support you in your learning and growth

  • Modern office space

  • Our company's WG (upon availability)

About us

HACKING THE PHYSICS AND ECONOMICS OF MOTION CONTROL WITH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

At Synapticon, we are revolutionizing motion control for robotics and machines—right at the point of motion.
Our approach is completely new: we integrate previously separate components such as motors, drives, sensors, and gearboxes into seamless units. At the same time, we are digitizing performance and quality factors that previously depended on expensive mechanical manufacturing.
