About the Role

SP Industries Inc. is hiring for our team in Vineland, NJ and has an immediate opening for a 5S Intern for Summer 2026. In this role, the right candidate will support the implementation of 5S principles—Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain—within selected areas of the glass manufacturing facility. The goal is to improve workplace organization, reduce waste, enhance visual management, and support a safer and more efficient production environment.

Scope and Responsibilities: The intern will evaluate designated production, maintenance, storage, and support areas to identify housekeeping, organization, labeling, storage, and floor-marking opportunities. Tasks may include documenting current conditions, taking before-and-after photos, red-tagging unnecessary items, assisting with workstation organization, creating visual controls, and helping establish simple standards for maintaining improvements. As part of the project, the intern will also help identify and support the proper marking of work areas, waste storage locations, fire extinguisher locations, workspaces, pedestrian walkways, and required clearance areas in front of electrical panel boxes.

Key Deliverables:

  • Baseline 5S assessment for selected work areas
  • Photo documentation of pre-project and post-project conditions
  • Red-tag log and disposition tracking for unnecessary items
  • Area organization recommendations and visual management improvements
  • Recommendations and implementation support for proper marking of work areas, waste storage, fire extinguisher locations, workspaces, walkways, and electrical panel clearances
  • Simple 5S standards or checklists for sustaining improvements
  • Final summary report showing completed improvements and future opportunities

Project 2: Facility Chemical Audit and SDS Database Update

Objective: The intern will complete a full chemical audit of the glass manufacturing facility and support the verification and update of the company’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database. The goal is to ensure that chemicals on-site are accurately inventoried, properly identified, and matched to current SDS records to support hazard communication and regulatory compliance.

Scope and Responsibilities: The intern will conduct a room-by-room and department-by-department review of chemicals used, stored, or staged throughout the facility. Responsibilities may include recording product names, manufacturers, container sizes, use locations, and storage conditions; identifying missing, outdated, or duplicate SDS records; coordinating with department leaders to verify active products; and organizing information for upload or correction in the company SDS system.

Key Deliverables:

  • Complete chemical inventory by area or department
  • List of chemicals missing SDS records or requiring updated SDS versions
  • Identification of obsolete, duplicate, or no-longer-used products
  • Updated and organized SDS database entries for active chemicals
  • Gap summary identifying compliance or housekeeping opportunities related to chemical storage and labeling
  • Final report summarizing audit findings, corrective actions taken, and recommendations for maintaining the SDS system
