Our Summer Internship roles will be based in various locations across the country and offer potential travel opportunities. You will have exposure and the opportunity to broaden your skills through impactful work, mentored relationships, and will gain real world exposure to different disciplines on Smithfield’s team.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern majoring in Information Technology (or related field) to support the Quality team in the digital transformation of our Quality Management System (QMS).

This role will focus on scanning, organizing, and digitizing a large volume of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other quality documents to support the implementation of an electronic quality system (eQMS).

Core Responsibilities

  • Scan and digitize over 400 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and additional quality documents
  • Ensure high-quality image capture, proper file formatting, and document readability
  • Organize, label, and index digital files according to QMS standards and naming conventions
  • Upload and manage documents within the electronic Quality Management System (eQMS)
  • Perform quality checks to verify completeness, accuracy, and proper version control of digitized documents
  • Assist in categorizing and structuring documents for efficient retrieval
  • Support data entry and metadata tagging for document management systems
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to ensure compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Identify opportunities for improving document handling and digital workflows
  • Provide general administrative and technical support for the Quality Systems team as needed

Qualifications

  • Finance, Accounting, Agribusiness or Related Major
  • Must have completed your sophomore year in college.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
  • Willingness to learn and work in a team environment.
  • Proactive thinker and self-motivated.
  • Strong time, project, and organizational management skills.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with document management systems or content management systems
  • Experience with scanning, file management, or digitization projects
  • Understanding of databases, file structures, or data organization
  • Exposure to Quality Systems or regulated environments (e.g., GMP, ISO) is a plus
