About the Role

What You Will Do
- Delivering Effective Nutrition Care under the supervision of a dietetic internship program preceptor
- Critical Thinking & Decision Making under the supervision of a dietetic internship program preceptor
- Communication & Education under the supervision of a dietetic internship program preceptor
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree of Science Degree in Nutrition. (Required) and
- Bachelor's Degree Completion of an ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics academic program, which grants at least a bachelor’s degree. (Required) and
- Participate in the national computerized match process, which is facilitated through D&D Digital, and receive one of five dietetic intern positions with the ACEND-accredited University Hospitals Dietetic Internship Program. (Required)
- This is a trainee position which has the end goal of preparing the dietetic intern to possess competent skills to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) & apply the nutrition care process to patient care. (Required proficiency)
- The person has the potential as reflected by the dietetic internship program application to become develop competent skills to evaluate and recommend nutrition needs based on the specific combined objective/subjective information for a clinical nutrition assessment. (Required proficiency)
- The dietetic intern works under the supervision of a University Hospitals Dietetic Internship Program preceptor at all times to meet the objectives of our dietetic internship program. (Required proficiency)
- Analytical skills to assess patient’s condition & provide appropriate interventions under the supervision of a dietetic internship program preceptor. Exhibits appropriate & effective communication/interpersonal skills to effectively work with patients, families, physicians and other health care professionals. (Required proficiency)
- Dietetic interns complete rotations focused in the following areas: clinical nutrition, community nutrition, and foodservice nutrition. (Required proficiency)
