Position Type-Contract

Compensation & Placement: Up to a maximum of $15000 for the year (based on an hourly rate of $20.00/hour ).

About This Role:


We are looking for someone with expertise and training in the world of fashion design that would be interested in supporting students (ages 12-18) in achieving their goals in the HTS Fashion Forward Program


Students in the HTS Fashion Forward co-curricular program are from grades 6-12They participate in their spare time to design and create garments they have designed and sketched through part of an imaginative and exploratory process of learning. They plan and sketch their design, choose fabrics or a base garment, learn to drape on a dress form or use a pattern and learn to use a sewing machine and serger. In this program, students also have the opportunity to learn about using the laser cutter and other design tech tools to make their innovative and highly creative designs. Depending on the number of years in the program, their experience ranges significantly. In mid June, the students

The role would ideally entail being at HTS in Richmond Hill, 3-5 pm each weekday, however, there is some flexibility with hours for anyone who is keenly interested.


The program would take place starting in October 2026 - June 2027

There is some potential to serve summer programming as well, through the month of July.



What You Need:

We are inviting candidates with the following qualifications to apply:


  • Design Theory & Concept Development: The ability to guide students from raw inspiration to cohesive design of a garment.

  • Patternmaking & 3D Draping: Ability to translate 2D sketches into 3D garments through the use of patterns, muslin draping on dress forms, and fit correction.

  • Garment Construction & Tailoring: Proficiency in sewing machinery, simple tailoring, and diverse finishing techniques

  • Textile Science: Deep knowledge of fiber behavior, fabric weights, grainlines, and sourcing 

  • Ideally, a fluency in Adobe Illustrator and other fashion industry software.

  • A willingness to learn how to use equipment like the laser cutter and 3D printers to supplement the student work.

  • Ideally, some experience in supporting and understanding how age 11 - 18 year old students learn and need to be supported in the creative process.
