Job Description

Position Purpose: 

Our Operations and Engineering Intern will work closely with our skilled Staff at their project to learn and understand what is involved with the daily operation and maintenance of a water/wastewater treatment facility. This internship serves as an introduction to the water/wastewater industry and explores potential career pathways in operations, engineering, and facility management. You will become part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to serving our community and protecting our environment.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • This internship position will provide hands-on experience in a water/wastewater environment and will involve working under the guidance of an experienced full-time employee (FTE).
  • This internship is focused on our Watershed Department, where you will gain hands-on learning and exposure to the fundamental business processes and procedures essential to that department's operations.
  • This position involves laboratory, technical, maintenance, and groundskeeping work in the operation of a wastewater treatment facility. This position will also work with the Regional Engineer to discover the planning, development and execution of construction projects at a water/wastewater facility. This position also provides exposure to experienced operations leaders who will teach and provide knowledge about their specialized areas, broadening your understanding of how different functions contribute to overall facility success.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in a wastewater environment.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Rising seniors.
  • Tech Schools.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, listening, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships.
  • Strong ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to work under the guidance of an experienced FTE.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capability to lift objects weighing approximately 30-35 lbs.

Additional Information

Pay Rate: $21.00 per hour.

Benefits: Interns are considered temporary employees. Medical and basic life insurance coverage is available to temporary employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week immediately following 60 days of service. Employees must elect or waive medical coverage within 45 days of their eligibility date. Veolia observes 11 holidays.
