POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Student Veteran Social Media Intern
Status: Part-time, paid internship
Reports to: Marketing and Communications Director
Location: Remote
Eligibility: Strong preference for student veterans, or must have a direct connection to the student veteran community.

Student Veterans of America (SVA) is a 501(c)(3) higher education non-profit, headquartered in Washington, DC. With a mission focused on empowering student veterans, SVA is committed to providing an educational experience that goes beyond the classroom. Through a dedicated network of on-campus chapters, SVA aims to inspire veterans by connecting student veterans with a community of dedicated chapter leaders. Every day these passionate leaders work to provide the necessary resources, network support, and advocacy to ensure student veterans can effectively connect, expand their skills, and ultimately achieve their greatest potential. Summary
The Student Veteran Social Media Intern will amplify authentic student veteran voices, support daily social media operations, and help maintain an engaging, timely, and student-centered digital presence. This role is designed to build professional marketing experience for a student veteran while strengthening SVA’s connection to its community. The intern will prioritize peer-to-peer storytelling, consistent social engagement, platform trend awareness, and mission-aligned content creation. This individual will work effectively both independently and as part of a team, manage multiple assignments, and operate in a deadline-based environment. This position reports to the Marketing and Communications team.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Social Media Support
- Draft, schedule, and publish daily social media posts across primary platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, TikTok, and others)
- Re-share tagged content from chapters, partners, and student veterans
- Save and organize tagged images and videos for future use
- Ensure posts align with brand voice, accessibility best practices, and organizational guidelines
Community Engagement
- Monitor and respond to direct messages and comment inboxes, or flag messages for escalation
- Engage authentically with followers, chapters, and partners
- Support timely responses during campaigns, events, and awareness moments
Storytelling and Content Development
- Proactively gather student veteran stories through text, photos, and short videos
- Coordinate with chapters and student leaders to surface compelling content
- Pitch content ideas tied to student life, service transition, academic success, and leadership
Social Listening and Trends
- Track emerging platform trends, memes, sounds, and formats relevant to student audiences
- Recommend new content formats and creative ideas
- Support experimentation with Reels, Stories, carousels, and short-form video
Reporting and Analytics
- Assist with monthly social media reports and performance snapshots
- Track engagement, follower growth, and post-level insights
- Identify content themes that resonate most with student veterans
General Support
- Support campaign launches, observances, and advocacy moments
- Assist the Marketing and Communications team with ad hoc tasks as needed
- Complete other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
Required
- Student status, currently enrolled in a college or university
- Active use of multiple social media platforms
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
- Comfort engaging authentically online
Preferred
- Experience running a chapter or personal social media account
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and Meta Business Suite; experience using Salesforce CRM and HubSpot is a plus
- Knowledge of WordPress and Google Analytics is a plus
- Interest in marketing, communications, or storytelling
- Understanding of student veteran culture and challenges

Time Commitment and Duration
- 10 to 20 hours per week
- 6-month internship
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic responsibilities
- Clear weekly expectations and deadlines
- Option to renew based on performance and interest
Compensation
- $20 per hour
- Stipend or college credit options may be available depending on the candidate’s program
Work Environment
This is a remote role within the U.S.
