Mercer’s GSD Health Actuarial team is seeking candidate for Actuarial role(s) to support client engagements focused on U.S. employers’ healthcare benefits & prescription drug strategies and financials. This is a hands-on role working with U.S. Consulting & Actuarial teams to deliver high-quality analysis and client materials. The successful candidate will be an individual contributor developing expertise by supporting client deliverables such as underwriting, financial projections, carrier selection analysis, plan design optimization, and employee contribution setting, assisting with reserving analyses, and evaluating well-being initiatives and other programs for their cost and outcome impacts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of client deliverables such as underwriting and financial projections, carrier selection analysis, plan design changes and optimization, and employee contribution setting.
- Estimate incurred but not paid (IBNP) claims and assist with reserving analyses to support client financial planning.
- Analyze and evaluate well-being initiatives and other health-related programs for their cost-effectiveness and impact on outcomes.
- Collect and analyze pharmacy claims and utilization data to support client analysis and decision-making.
- Evaluation of comprehensive RFPs (Request for Proposal) to solicit proposals from pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) or vendors.
- Evaluate the competitiveness of pharmacy benefit vendors in the market, assessing capabilities, pricing, and services to ensure clients receive the best value.
- Monitor and address significant changes or disruptions to the formulary and retail networks, working with clients to assess the impact and develop strategies to mitigate any negative effects.
- Works on complex actuarial/quantitative analysis projects with some guidance from onshore project team members to assess and project costs, rates, risks and trends associated with Rx Financials and Pharmacy Actuary Support
- Help prepare and write client communications, ensuring clarity and professionalism in reports, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- Participate in occasional client-facing activities and collaborate with senior staff on presentations and financial discussions with clients.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with U.S. consulting teams, internal subject-matter experts, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support project management activities including scoping tasks, managing deadlines, prioritizing competing workstreams, and ensuring timely delivery of accurate and high-quality outputs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field with steady progress toward actuarial credentials – minimum 4 exams with at least any 1 of the CS or CM series exams or master’s degree in actuarial science
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
